 - an Alternative Splash -- What is a Splash Page and Why? ---------------------Splash Page!Once upon a time a Splash Page (or Splash Screen) was little more than a basic welcome/start page for a website, these days a Splash Page is more likely to be a promotional capture page designed specifically for use on Traffic Exchanges or as an Ad or Banner landing page.There is, of course, a lot of debate as to what constitutes an ideal splash page (and as to whether or not a splash page be needed at all) but there can be little doubt that ... 'Keep it Short & To-The-Point' ... should be the primary consideration in it's design and execution. It should give a brief summary and overview of the site/product concerned... remember that the average surfer will spend very few seconds assessing a site's potential before deciding whether or not to surf on and leave the target site/product unexplored and un-investigated. A splash page should download almost immediately - if a page takes too long to open most surfers will simply move on. So - Web masters, keep it engaging or even challenging - entice them in and give your surfers a reason to stay and explore. Provide links to different pages within your target site or sites - make your splash page a convenient portal from which to explore the site or range of products that you are promoting. I would advise that you always use a splash page on Traffic Exchanges. Do not place a web page that you want to promote in Search Engines (like a site's index or home page) on a Traffic Exchange - it wont help its Search Engine Optimization or Ranking and will more than likely hinder them significantly. Also, be careful how you monetize your splash page, many ad providers - like Google Adsense - don't like their adverts appearing on Traffic Exchanges - and will pull them... Why? - because they can!
