The Sigils of Life and their meaning: representing archetypal personifications of the key attributes and stages of Life, Humanity and the Universe. Like all the Codices of the Universal Mythos this is a work in progress and its terms and definitions are open to further editing, clarifications and additions.

I would like to stress that, in my opinion, the most important parts of the following "states of being" - certainly from the self-improvement and self-realization point of view - is the Faults, Virtues and Vices entries. A Fault is an inadequacy in the self, a Virtue is a moderation of the self and a Vice is an indulgence of the self. Moderation, or balance, is key in all aspects of life if you hope to evolve into your higher or ideal self... only then can you achieve true attainment in the occult or mystic sense.

There follows the fifteen states of being: ten of Manifestation (1-10) & five of Emanation (0, 11, 12, 13 & ∞) - with each entry detailing their actual, symbolic and metaphorical associations and correspondences.
The five states of Emanation correspond to the five Portals of Imperative Emanation, labelled I-V in the glyph of the Four Planes of Existence (see the Universal Mythos Codex 3 (soon)); as such they represent the portals between and beyond the Planes.

0 - Zero - Archetype: Divine Fool - (V - the Void)

Attribute: INSTINCT - defined by levels of Egotism.
Representing the innocence of childhood, as well as the promise and potential of all children (and of the primordial Void it stands for), this archetype/deity is often personified by a playful, prepubescent (hermaphrodite?) child - free of care, ignorant of hardship, selfishly oblivious and unthinkingly impulsive - but destined to set in motion a course of events that will shape the universe... or alternatively is simply to be engulfed and overwhelmed by them - blissful in her/his ignorance.

1 - One - Archetype: Logos (the Word)

Attribute: CREATIVITY - defined by levels of Imagination.
Representing the Primal-Deity - usually depicted in profile (showing only half his/her aspect... the male (or the benevolent) half?) as an elderly, though powerful, man - that rules from the highest heaven. Often perceived as impartial, distant and aloof S/He embodies both the Negative and Positive Dualities and represents all the other gods and demons in one all-powerful omniscient Being. S/He is that from which all deities and demons have come and therefore they are all aspects of Her/Him. All are One and One is All.

Usually portrayed as the Father of the gods, he is the dynamic force that began all life, the phallus that infused it. He is a god of creation, wisdom, of the sky and of thunder and lightning. Personified as an older, mature man he provides stability and order. His negative or demonic aspect represents uncontrolled force, destruction and instability.

Usually portrayed as the Mother of the gods, the dark ocean from which all life issued, she is the primordial womb. A goddess of understanding and the giver of life and motherhood she is often depicted as a matronly woman connected with faith, fidelity and wealth. Her negative aspect is as a demoness of sorrow, mourning and death - she is the primeval sea or Chaos.

Usually portrayed as the goddess of the harvest, marriage and childbirth. She is mercy and gentleness personified as mother and child – sometimes depicted with twins. She has connections with the earth, stone, jewels, birds and horses; with milk and nursing, and is often associated with the harvest and agriculture as well as defensive warfare. Her negative aspect is as the demoness of loneliness, cruelty, neglect and bigotry - she represents drought and famine.

He is a strong and resourceful war leader, a providing husband and father, fighting for his family, lands and people. His negative aspect is as a demon of ferociousness and all-out, unprovoked warfare.

Usually personified as a virginal young man he is a solar god of skill, harmony and prophecy with connections to healing, shepherding, agriculture, music and poetry - but also a warrior and hunter - embodying discipline and self-control. He is the personification of the autumn sun that brings on the harvest. As a demon he personifies the blinding, burning harshness of direct sunlight. A skilful and deadly warrior that represents arrogance, boasting and rebellion.

The goddess of love, joy, pleasure, fertility and sex. She governs the emotions and is a goddess of initiation. She is usually personified as a young voluptuous woman at sexual maturity and is a goddess of festivity and victory who has connections with the evening star, earth, trees and the forest. Her demonic aspect is that of debauchery and vengeance that personifies impulsive, hedonistic and even violent reckless behaviour... to the extreme.

Attribute: INTELECT - defined by levels of Reason.
The god of rational truth, knowledge, magic, medicine and communication. He is also a god of fertility and sex - whose symbol is the phallus or serpent. Offering abundance and instruction he is seen as a young man at sexual maturity - virile and strong. He is a deity of glory, the air, wind and athleticism who has connections with animals and the underworld. His demonic aspect is associated with deceit, tricks, thievery and evil sorceries, especially Necromancy.

The goddess of healing, water springs, dreams, sleep and purification. She is a lunar deity associated with the underworld, a huntress and nursemaid connected with white witchcraft, poetry, flowers and young animals. Usually personified as a young virgin woman she offers inspiration and immortality and is a symbol of instinct, fertility, of potential and rebirth. Her demonic aspect is that of sloth, indifference and neglect, nightmares and black witchcraft, she personifies festering pestilence and disease.

The impartial deity of the material world, representing the mundane manifestations of all the gods and demons in one personification. S/He represents both the negative and the positive dualities within the physical realm and is often said to symbolise material wealth, physical sensation and a preoccupation with mundane matters. S/He is the maintainer and over-seer of the physical world and everything in it - responsible for the continuing successful machinations of the manifest universe.

This archetype represents the intoxicating wonders and terrifying dangers of wild, unbridled and unpredictable nature. As an aspect of the Demiurge she personifies the transformative qualities of nature and natural beauty - she opens the gates of perception to higher planes and represents the first stage of introspection that leads to self knowledge through the perception, experience and negotiation of the world around you.

12 - Twelve - Archetype: Chthonic Queen - (II - the Threshold)

Attribute: CURIOSITY - defined by levels of Enthusiasm.
As an aspect of the Moon Maiden she represents the bridging of the Material Plane and the Lunar Underworld that is the Astral Plane through intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm. Her negative side can be seen as obsessively pursuing her interests and goals with manic disregard for all else. Usually personified as a young sexually mature woman enthroned as queen of the Chthonic underworld she is a goddess of dreams, visions and revelations.

Attribute: INSIGHT - defined by levels of Altruism.
This aspect of the Golden Youth is usually personified as a solar hero god that balances and bridges the ethical solar and intellectual lunar principles by questing into the lunar/underworld and slaying a serpent/dragon. Often depicted as a sacrificial or imprisoned god that acts as saviour. This god's negative side is as an imprisoner, torturer and executioner.

Usually personified as a wise old magus/shaman or prophet that instructs, guides and protects their charges... but is often distracted or preoccupied by greater or more pressing concerns beyond the ken of lesser mortals. As a god that symbolises the attainment of gnosis - specifically the knowledge of good and evil - he represents great power, but also great danger.
